This Gift Will Change a Child’s Life

How to Be a Life Changer

Tis the season…

  • For giving
  • For decorating
  • For stressing (let’s be real)
  • For worshipping
  • For reflecting

Tis the season to be BUSY! So with this in mind, I’m writing a very short blog today in the hope that you’ll have time to give it a quick read.

As a former teacher and mom (still a mom, lol), reading to the kids was my favorite thing to do. Books have an unmistakable power of taking you away, placing you into the middle of your own adventure.

Reading gives you an escape from your own reality, a glimpse into the world at large, and an opportunity to learn in such a powerful, yet subtle way, that the reader isn’t even aware it’s happening.

However, not all children have embraced the joy of reading. Many children haven’t been exposed to a variety of books at home. And some children attend schools that just don’t have the funding to offer a well-stocked library of books.

This leads me to the purpose of this particular blog post. The last few years, I have subbed and volunteered at a small, at-risk school. The students in this particular school have both academic and emotional needs.

On one particular day, while working with one of the students on his sight words, he looked up at me said:

I’m eight years old and don’t know how to read.

What kind of crap is that?

With this year’s pandemic, the need for great books that will entice the students to dig in and improve their reading skills, is even greater.

Through my small business, I’m fortunate enough to be a Partner in Education for an at-risk school. I want to fill their shelves with a variety of books so that the students can read, and experience the joy of losing themselves in the story.

In an effort to make this happen, I hired an ,artist to create a beautiful design to put on sweatshirts and T-shirts.

One hundred percent of the proceeds will be used to purchase books for the school’s library.

You can read more about it and view/purchase the shirts here.

You can truly change the life of a child by providing the gift of reading, either by sharing this post, or purchasing a shirt. And I, as well the students and staff, will be, eternally grateful.

If you decide to purchase a shirt, please be sure to post a photo of you wearing it on ,Instagram, or you can email it me. I’d love to see which one you got, and to be able to thank you personally!
